Total Physio's Iontophoresis is a non-invasive method of propelling high concentrations of a charged substance, normally medication or bioactive agents, transdermally by repulsive electromotive force using a small electrical charge applied to an iontophoretic chamber containing a similarly charged active agent and its vehicle. To clarify, each hand or foot is immersed in a tray containing a pad wetted with tap water. The pads are connected to a low-intensity electric current that is passed through the liquid. The currents are sent through the skin to disrupt the function of the sweat glands. This type of treatment can be effective for people with Focal Hyperhidrosis of hands or feet. Initial Iontophoresis treatment takes about 30 minutes per treatment site, at least 4 days per week. There is a potential for skin irritation, and is not usually recommended for underarm or facial/head Hyperhidrosis. Once control is achieved, a single treatment can be effective for several weeks. |
